Webster defines trust as "Confidence, firm belief, state of being relied on." FAITH. Webster tackles this one as "Trust, belief, belief without proof, promise, loyalty." These have been keywords for me lately. Subjects I've been forced to revisit because trust and faith can be easily overlooked and taken for granted. They are ideals to be cherished. They are foundations to any relationship. Delenn declared that "faith manages," which I see as a poetic way of saying trust is something you must work at all the time. After enjoying a steady stream of work and the good fortune to have produced some quality television, (as of this writing) I have joined the masses of unemployed. Now, I must bolster my faith so I can entice and earn trust of an employer. Earn trust to engage another relationship. The old adage in Hollywood is that "it's not what you know, but who you know" is sadly accurate. I'm out meeting with production companies focused not on selling them what I've accomplished, but rather who I am and how they will benefit by trusting me. This is poignant because at the same time, I've discovered I must retain and cultivate trust with my family and friends. It's not all about business all the time, is it? And while I've not seen any true indicator that our economy has turned around, I must have faith that it will...soon... and that advertisers will start to spend more money, which ultimately funnels its way to television production. Because making TV is what I do and I trust that I always will. And because Faith Manages.
