It is with joy that I can announce ...

I received word today that a childhood friend and neighbor, Kevin Clark, was able to exit the World Trade Center and survived. This is amazing and relieving news, as we had not heard of his condition for what seemed a very long time.

This wonderful news is balanced by the fact that his younger brother, Greg Clark, last reported on the 105th floor, has not yet been accounted for.

Kevin is my age and Greg is my younger brother's age. We lived a block away from each other and attended grammar and high schools together. I've not seen them for many years, but my brother has stayed in touch with Greg.

As of this writing, I'm not sure the full impact has hit me. Like everyone, this has been an emotional and trying week. Like you, I'm exhausted. Drained.

Moments ago, I recalled to Patricia that another childhood friend, Tommy Ammerman, whom I worked with at a day camp as teenagers, was killed on Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie. Tommy lived a block the other direction.

As I write this, I realize that I've probably lost two fragments of my life to terrorism.

I'm not sure I know what to do with that thought.

Be safe.
Love thy neighbor.
God bless all of us.
